知道平滑升级的可能性比较小，但还是忍不住升级到最新的Ubuntu 10.04，毕竟10.04是长期支持版本（LTS），有更新的Linux内核。也正如我所想，升级后图形化界面就启动不起来了，折腾了一晚上，最终决定重装Ubuntu10.04，这样的决定是需要勇气的，这意味着以前对配置文件的修改全都要重来，以前安装的软件要重新安装，总之，选择升级确实令人有些懊悔。
重装后就开始狂装软件，遇到最大的麻烦是原来我使用的VMware7.0不能使用了。VMware7.0可以安装上去，但是在第一次运行时，Network device内核模块编译不过，导致VMware启动不起来。网上找了好久，是由于Linux内核版本升级了，导致了与VMware代码的不兼容，编译不过。网上有很多打补丁的方法，但是都是针对特定版本的，而且相当繁琐。有的补丁打上去，反而导致更多的VMware模块编译出错。
最后到VMware官网上看看，发现WMare7.1便是针对Ubuntu10.04做了更新与改进，于是，马上下载了VMware-Workstation-7.1.0-261024.i386.bundle，安装，运行，一切OK，太令人Happy了！
相信很多人都在Windows下使用过VMware，尽管VMware是收费的，但是Windows下VMware的破解注册码相当多，所以大家都不会在意收费问题。但是到了Ubuntu上，跃过收费问题就不那么容易了，不过问题并没有想像的那么难。VMware的Linux版本可以在VMware官网上免费下载（当然需要注册），便可以试用30天，有人会问30天过后怎么办呢？其实只有VMware的Workstation是收费的，而VMware的player是永远免费的，而Workstation与player的差别在于，前者可以创建虚拟机文件，而player只能运行已有的虚拟机文件，所以你可以在在试用期内创建好虚拟机文件，或者在windows下创建好虚拟机文件（windows下的虚拟机文件与Linux下的虚拟机文件是兼容的），然后在VMware player中使用即可。
这次升级后，打算坚持两年不再升级！
